Installing a license
Paste your license file into Vaultigen, or provide it through the environment.
Get your license
After the purchase you receive the license by email. You can also download it at any time from your customer account, where you sign in with a one-time link sent to your email address.
A license looks like this:

Option 1: in the application (recommended)
- Sign in as a Super Admin.
- Open System → License and choose Install license.
- Paste the complete block, including the BEGIN and END lines.
The license is stored in the database, so it is part of every backup. Installing or removing it is recorded in Activity with the license ID, edition, user limit and update period, never the license text.
Option 2: through the environment
For hosts configured entirely through environment variables, set VAULTIGEN_LICENSE. Put the block on one line in double quotes; whitespace inside it is ignored:
VAULTIGEN_LICENSE="-----BEGIN VAULTIGEN LICENSE----- eyJ2Ijox... -----END VAULTIGEN LICENSE-----"When the variable is set, it takes precedence and the License page becomes read-only. Run php artisan config:cache again after changing it if you cache configuration.
On Docker Compose, add the line to .env in single quotes (VAULTIGEN_LICENSE='-----BEGIN VAULTIGEN LICENSE----- … -----END VAULTIGEN LICENSE-----') and run docker compose up -d --wait.
Check the result
The sidebar now shows “Licensed to” and your organization’s name, and System → License shows the edition, the user limit and the update period.
Changing the licensee name
If you bought as an individual and want your company’s name in the license, change the licensee in your customer account. You receive a new file by email; install it the same way.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Meaning and fix |

| This is not a valid Vaultigen license | The block is incomplete or damaged. Paste the whole block again, with the BEGIN and END lines and no other text. |
| The license signature is not valid | The text was changed after it was issued. Copy it again from the email or your account. |
| This license was not signed with a key that this Vaultigen version trusts | Your Vaultigen version is older than the license. Update Vaultigen. |
| This license requires a newer Vaultigen version | Update Vaultigen. |
| The license contains invalid data | Contact support with your license ID. |
